Maddison Product Design - Tech Transfer

Cervical Cancer Diagnostic Device

Zilico: Real-time Medical Diagnostics

overview

Brief
A spin-out company from the Sheffield Teaching Hosipitals NHS Foundation Trust and University of Sheffield, Zilico represents a good example of practical technology transfer. Maddison helped develop the cancer screening technology through clinical trial, then commercialisation. End user ergonomics was an important aspect of the design, together with infection control considerations and minimizing the cost of the disposable.

Outcome
Maddison changed the product layout and incorporated contact electrodes into the tip of a disposable polypropylene shealth which allowed the electronics to remain in the re-useable portion of the device. Significant cost savings and environmental savings were introduced. Features include: Wireless infr red data transfer, wireless induction charging, ergonomic controls, interactive display, easy to clean (infection control), universal single use disposable.
