Create a rapid testing device for diagnosing sexually transmitted diseases.

Outcome
A low cost product that reliably collects the first few millilitres of urine from a stream. A device which can be used by patients with only simple instructions to follow.

Maddison were part of an international team of chemists, biologists, engineers and material scientists, led by Dr Helen Lee from University of Cambridge to develop the device.

Firstburst® received FDA device clearance and is now being used as part of the chlamydia rapid test for men which recently obtained regulatory approval in Europe.
