Design and create an affordable, easy way to identify vision problems for young children – at home or in the classroom.

Outcome
I-test is a simple to use tool that doesn't require a power source. It can provide a range of seventeen pairs of precision moulded plastic lenses. Hand-held, like a pair of binoculars, the user looks through the lens window and adjusts the optical disk wheels until they can see clearly.

We designed a system to house the lenses and developed mechanisms to provide: ergonomic disc advance, lens shuttering, pin hole masking, device folding and the adjustment for pupil spacing. The product is being field tested by a number of institutions including the World Health Organisation and Sightsavers International.
